Fraserburgh born Dr. Stewart Slessor OBE was awarded the Polar Medal for exploration work in

Antarctica in 1946. An Antarctic mountain, Slessor Peak, commemorates his name. During his lifetime

Stewart was appointed Senior Medical Officer of the Falkland Islands and acted as Deputy Governor.
.
He died in Scotland in 1985. His ashes are interred in his wife’s grave at Stanley cemetery.
