 . Fraserburgh born Dr. Stewart Slessor OBE was awarded the Polar Medal for exploration work in . Antarctica in 1946. An Antarctic mountain, Slessor Peak, commemorates his name. During his lifetime . Stewart was appointed Senior Medical Officer of the Falkland Islands and acted as Deputy Governor. . He died in Scotland in 1985. His ashes are interred in his wife’s grave at Stanley cemetery.
